Tuzla to mark 31st anniversary of the Kapija massacre on Monday

(Patria) - Tuzla will mark the 31st anniversary of the Kapija massacre on Monday, May 25, 2026, one of the darkest days in the city's history.

A shell fired from the VRS positions on Mount Ozren on May 25, 1995, killed 71 young people, while more than 150 were wounded. The average age of the killed was 23.

In memory of the victims of this war crime, as well as all civilian victims of the war in Tuzla and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the City of Tuzla is organizing a commemorative event.

The program begins at 10:00 AM with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the memorial to civilian victims of the war in Aleja mladosti (Alley of Youth) in Slana Banja.

The commemoration and laying of wreaths and flowers at the site where the youth of Tuzla perished at Kapija are scheduled for 12:00 PM.

At 8:55 PM, sirens will sound to commemorate the moment of the tragedy, as a symbol of respect and lasting remembrance of the innocent victims.

On the day of the commemoration, the Kapija Memorial Center, at Patriotske lige 5 Street, will be open to visitors from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

The City of Tuzla has invited citizens, organizations, institutions, and friends of Tuzla to join the commemoration and pay dignified tribute to the victims.
