With tonight's triumph, their second in as many matches, the USA - one of the hosts - have secured the next round of the World Cup.

The match started openly, and already in the 2nd minute Australia threatened through Toure, but Freese was secure.

Nevertheless, the USA quickly took control and took the lead in the 11th minute.

Balogun broke through on the right side and crossed the ball into the six-yard box, and Burgess reacted clumsily, sending the ball into his own net for 1-0.

The Americans continued with better play, while Australia tried with long-range shots.

In the 15th minute, Leckie shot just wide of the goal, while at the other end, McKennie threatened with a header after a corner, but Circati intervened.

The USA continued to press, and in the 26th minute we saw a good and open match.

In the 32nd minute, Tillman took a corner from the left side, found Richards, but his shot went wide of the goal.

At the end of the first half, the hosts doubled their lead.

It was the 43rd minute when, after a deflected ball, Freeman was the most composed and headed in for 2-0.

The referee added seven minutes of stoppage time in the first half, but the score did not change.

The teams went to the break with a 2-0 scoreline, with a fully deserved lead for the home side, who showed more in all segments of the game.

In the 52nd minute, a big chance for the USA. Balogun went alone towards the Australian goal, but Cercati made a brilliant last-ditch intervention to save his team.

The Australians responded in the 62nd minute through Cristian Volpato, but his shot from a good position was inaccurate.

In the 65th minute, Metcalfe tried, but Freese saved his shot without any trouble.

Until the end of the match, Australia had a bit more of the play, but struggled to create serious chances, while the USA routinely controlled the match and preserved their lead.

In the final round of the group stage, the USA will play against Turkey, while Australia will face Paraguay.
