Right-wingers from DP seek support of Croatian Parliament for reorganization of BiH, revision of citizenships, special electoral unit for Croats

(Patria) - The Homeland Movement announced that today they held the first meeting with representatives of HDZ, where they discussed the proposal for a parliamentary Resolution on strengthening the political position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Resolution, among other things, calls for the establishment of a special electoral unit for Croats in the Federation of BiH.

"We resolutely reject the usual unfounded remarks that the Republic of Croatia should not interfere in the internal affairs of a neighboring country. The Republic of Croatia is not only a co-signatory of the Washington and Dayton Agreements, but also has a constitutional and political responsibility towards Croats in BiH," the statement said.

The proposed Resolution contains eight points. According to the proposal of the Homeland Movement, the Croatian Parliament would request from the Government of the Republic of Croatia to continue providing support for achieving full political equality of Croats in BiH through reform of the political system that would lead to fair elections, in which each constituent people would elect their legitimate representatives.

This also considers the establishment of a special electoral unit for the election of representatives of the Croatian people with the aim of ensuring political equality of Croats. The Resolution would call on the Croatian Government to use all available mechanisms in the European Union and international organizations, including the right of veto, to encourage useful and prevent harmful initiatives when it comes to protecting the interests of Croats in BiH.

According to the proposed resolution, the Croatian Government is also requested to provide programmatic, financial and political support to educational, health, cultural and media institutions, as well as institutions of the Catholic Church in BiH, with the aim of achieving a higher degree of autonomy for Croats.

It also calls for continued active support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path, in line with Croatian national interests in security, economic and political terms. The proposed resolution also emphasizes that the Croatian Parliament follows the electoral processes in BiH with special attention.

In doing so, as they state, all calls for electoral engineering are most strongly condemned, especially organized outvoting of Croats in the election of the Croatian member of the BiH Presidency, delegates in the houses of peoples and other bodies of authority. The Croatian Government is also called upon to conduct a comprehensive review of the legality of procedures for acquiring Croatian citizenship in cases where there are reasonable suspicions of irregularities.

This refers to persons residing in BiH, including cases of individuals who systematically encourage electoral engineering, outvoting and undermining the political position of the Croatian people. It also calls for the annulment of illegally acquired status of Croatian citizenship in cases of abuse of legal grounds.

The President of the Parliament is expected to propose, by the end of 2026, within the framework of international cooperation of the Croatian Parliament, guidelines for strengthening dialogue and institutional cooperation with the Croatian National Assembly of BiH as the most important political body of the Croatian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From the Homeland Movement, they say that in the coming days, talks between DP and HDZ will continue in order to harmonize final positions.
