(Patria) - The Brazilian national football team secured their first victory at the 2026 World Cup after defeating Haiti 3-0 in the second round of Group C at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The Brazilians settled the match in the first half, scoring all three goals and completely controlling the action on the pitch. With this triumph, Carlo Ancelotti's side reached four points and drew level with Morocco at the top of the group. Scotland have three points, while Haiti, with no points, have no chance of advancing to the next stage of the competition.
After an initial period of probing, Brazil took the lead in the 23rd minute. Vinicius Junior broke down the left side and fired a shot that goalkeeper Placide managed to save, but the ball rebounded to Matheus Cunha, who slotted home from close range to make it 1-0.
The favourites' lead was doubled in the 36th minute. Bruno Guimaraes found Vinicius superbly, who unselfishly assisted Cunha, and the Brazilian striker hit the near post with a precise shot for his second goal of the match.
In stoppage time of the first half, Brazil dealt the final blow to Haiti. Guimaraes again set up Vinicius, who this time took on the role of scorer and routinely beat Placide for a commanding 3-0 lead.
In the second half, the tempo of the game dropped, and Brazil preserved their lead without major problems. The best chance in the second half fell to substitute Gabriel Martinelli, whose shot in the 69th minute hit the crossbar. Nine minutes later, Endrick found the back of Haiti's net, but his goal was rightly disallowed for offside.
This was Brazil's first win under Carlo Ancelotti at World Cups, and in the final round, the Selecao face a duel against Scotland. In the other Group C match, Morocco will face Haiti.
