Green Berets paid tribute to Sarajevo defenders: Events of May 2nd and 3rd cannot be separated

(Patria) - Members of the "Green Berets" association today in Drvenija, Sarajevo, recited Fatiha and in another appropriate manner paid tribute to the fighters who gave their lives for the defense of the capital city and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the crucial events of May 2nd and 3rd, 1992.

Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Omer Osmanović and a participant in the defense of Sarajevo said that the events of May 2nd and 3rd, 1992, in Sarajevo are inseparable and cannot be viewed as two separate events.

"Through the revisionist policies of our neighbors, they are trying to impose on us that we committed some crimes, which the Hague Tribunal rejected by stating that the JNA column was a legitimate military target. The brave action of patriots, led by the late General Divjak, who said not to shoot... that was a legitimate action. We did not go to Belgrade, we defended our families and our city here. This date will be written in golden letters in our history," said the cantonal minister.

He criticized the BiH Prosecutor's Office for "trying to accuse heroes of crimes," while reports against those who killed more than 11,000 Sarajevo citizens lie in drawers. Osmanović also assessed that this revisionism is a defeat for the pro-Bosnian policy and appealed not to allow the equating of defenders and aggressors.

On this day, the JNA column from the barracks in Bistrik was supposed to leave Sarajevo, but gunfire occurred in which several people from the column were fatally injured.

Green Berets member Ismir Nokto pointed to the manipulation of facts by the regime in Banja Luka and Belgrade, especially regarding the number of casualties in Dobrovoljačka.

A little further away, in the former Dobrovoljačka Street, now Hamdija Kreševljaković Street, a delegation from East Sarajevo arrived, laying candles and flowers under strong security presence.
