Decisions of the FBiH Government lead to workers on the streets and business closures in Doboj Jug

(Patria) - While discussions continue on whether the increase in the minimum wage, coupled with high contributions and a non-working Sunday, have negative consequences for the economy, the results of these moves are already visible on the ground.

In Doboj-Jug, a local community with several thousand inhabitants but around 300 business entities, a large shopping center has closed, the service and retail sectors are laying off workers daily, and after 25 years of successful business, an export-oriented company is closing its facilities and sending its workers to the employment bureau.

Similar stories are being reported in any local community in the Zenica-Doboj Canton.

“Our economy is declining in the sense that workers are being laid off, and some businesses are closing,” said Mirnes Tukić, the mayor of Doboj Jug.

One of the largest shopping centers has closed recently, and small business owners, restaurants, and catering facilities are laying off workers.

“After the FBiH Government made these harmful decisions, we had to lay off two workers from our restaurant,” stated Mervan Muratović, manager of a catering facility from Doboj Jug.

The example of a company that exported part of its wood production to the Swiss market testifies to how much the latest decisions of the FBiH Government are out of sync with the fiscal standards of modern business. The moment the FBiH Government announced the decision on the minimum wage, the Swiss partner terminated the contract without explanation, reported Federalna.ba.
