Very polluted air in several Sarajevo neighborhoods

(Patria) - Based on today's measurements by the Public Health Institute of Sarajevo Canton and the average at 8 AM, conducted at the automatic reference air quality monitoring stations in Sarajevo Canton, the Air Quality Index indicates a moderately to very polluted air quality status, depending on the measurement location.

Moderate air quality was recorded at the Vijećnica and Bjelave measurement locations, while polluted air quality was evident at the Ilidža, Ilijaš, and Hadžići locations. Very polluted air quality was recorded at the Saraj Polje, Otoka, and Vogošća measurement stations.

Compared to previous days, current measurements indicate a continued unfavorable air quality situation, with elevated concentrations of pollutants persisting at most measurement locations.

The dominant pollutants are particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10, as well as nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), suggesting a continuation of the pollution episode without significant stabilization.

According to the weather forecast until the end of the day, moderately to mostly cloudy weather is expected, with a maximum daily temperature around 4 degrees Celsius.

The wind will be weak, south and southwest, with speeds from 1 to 3 m/s, while conditions for temperature inversion are expected in the evening, which may further contribute to the retention of pollutants and a possible deterioration of air quality, according to the Public Health Institute (ZZJZ) of Sarajevo Canton.
