Law on Non-Working Sunday for Retail Workers Adopted

(Patria) - The Federation of BiH has adopted the Law on Internal Trade, which, among other things, prescribes Sunday as a non-working day for retail workers.

The proposal of this law was adopted today by the federal House of Peoples with 55 votes in favor, one delegate against, and three abstentions.

Let us recall, the same law was also adopted by the House of Representatives last week with a majority of votes.

The text defines that the law enters into force on the eighth day after its publication in the Official Gazette of the FBiH.

In the House of Representatives last week, an amendment was subsequently added to the originally proposed text from the Government of the FBiH, allowing municipal or city councils to request an exemption from the application of the provision on non-working Sunday in their areas through the Federal Ministry of Trade, if there is a justified reason, reports Fena.

It is specified that any such requests will be decided exclusively by the Government of the FBiH.

No amendments or proposals to change the provisions of the law were submitted in the House of Peoples today, although during the discussion, besides delegates who declaratively announced they would support it, there were also those who expressed doubts about whether it would truly bring real benefits to workers and the retail sector in general.

Although the Law on Internal Trade regulates several other issues, public attention for some time has been absolutely focused on the provision regarding Sunday as a non-working day for retail workers, so much so that it has acquired the widely accepted, albeit unofficial, name 'law on non-working Sunday'.
