(Patria) - On Saturday, June 6, it will be three months since the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton accepted the resignation of Nihad Uk, which brought down the entire Government of Sarajevo Canton. Uk submitted his resignation on February 15 after the tragic tram accident in which Erdoan Morankić lost his life. To this day, the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office has not completed the investigation, nor is it known what caused the tram to derail. Uk submitted his resignation, as he said, for moral reasons and following the demands of young people at a protest gathering, but as the protests subsided, so did the moral conscience of the cantonal prime minister.
Since the dismissal of the Sarajevo Canton Government, nothing has changed, except that the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of Sarajevo Canton, Enda Pavić Pečenković (SDP), was indicted in the "Koverta" case and was banned from performing her duties. This portfolio was taken over by Naida Hota-Muminović, the Minister of Education.
The parties that make up the Sarajevo Canton Government are not even considering appointing a new Government, nor are any talks being held, not even about the Minister of Labor and Social Policy. This was stated yesterday by the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, who emphasized that they are "already in June" and that this Government will remain until the elections, i.e., until a new Sarajevo Canton Government is formed.
He also said that he is proud of all the SDP ministers in the Sarajevo Canton Government, while admitting that as a Government they could have done better, but that ministers changed in some departments, making it difficult to achieve progress.
Such is the case in the department of communal economy, where there have been several ministers in the past years, but none from the SDP, and the cantonal public utility companies are still drowning in debt, the city is neglected and dirty, and there are frequent breakdowns in the water supply and sewage network...
Šteta also criticized certain directors, stating that ministers cannot do their jobs, and although he did not name them, it was clear that he was referring to the department of communal economy.
The good news for citizens is that there will be no new increase in public transport fares, and on July 1 it will be a year since public transport ticket prices increased in Sarajevo.
Incidentally, the mandate of the Sarajevo Canton Government (from March 2023) to date, during which several ministers have changed, has been marked by scandals, investigations, arrests of ministers, searches, due to criminal offenses of abuse of position, corruption, and illegal employment. So far, one indictment has been filed (among the accused are Pavić-Pečenković and former Minister of Higher Education Adna Mesihović, who is a current representative in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly), while the "Bjelašnica" case, in which former minister Bojan Bošnjak is also a suspect, has been transferred to the jurisdiction of POSKOK. However, even a year after the start of its work, this prosecutor's office has not filed an indictment, although the investigation has been conducted and all evidence has been submitted.
