Minister Mesihović and her assistant arrested for illegal employment

(Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton and the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton issued a joint statement on the operation "Koverta" in which the Minister of Higher Education Adna Mesihović and her assistant Dženita Viteškić were arrested.

"As part of the operation codenamed 'Koverta', upon the order of the acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton, investigators of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton deprived Adna Mesihović, Minister of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton, and her assistant Dženita Viteškić of their liberty. They are suspected of the criminal offense of abuse of position or authority. More precisely, they are suspected of illegal employment in the Ministry.

Early this morning, the apartments of the suspects and the offices of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton were searched. Documentation and other items that may serve in the further criminal proceedings were found.

The operation is, among other things, the result of a signed protocol on the processing of corruption-related criminal offenses between the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton, the Office for the Fight against Corruption of the Sarajevo Canton, and the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton. Assistance was also provided by the Intelligence and Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Incidentally, after criminal processing at the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton, the suspects will be handed over to the further jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton," the statement said.
