Criminal complaint against Dodik received by the Prosecutor's Office

(Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has received a criminal complaint against Milorad Dodik, president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), because, while appearing on a television show, he praised Ratko Mladić, convicted of genocide and other war crimes, Detektor has confirmed.

The complaint against Dodik was filed by Emir Suljagić, director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

 “The case is being processed and the allegations from the complaint are being verified,” the Prosecutor's Office said.

 Dodik, appearing on a television show, stated that Mladić, “the supreme commander of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), is a national hero of this people,” and boasted that he, as a Defense witness, testified in The Hague in the trials against Mladić and Radovan Karadžić, the first president of the RS, convicted of genocide in Srebrenica and other crimes in BiH. The former VRS commander Mladić was sentenced to the same punishment for genocide and other crimes.

Detektor previously reported that legal experts and victims believe that this television appearance by Dodik must be subject to prosecution.

Former High Representative in BiH Valentin Inzko imposed amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH which prohibit and punish the glorification of war criminals. Awarding recognitions, prizes, commemorative medals, any kind of reminder or any privilege to a person convicted by a final verdict for genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes will be punishable by a prison sentence of at least three years, as stipulated, among other things, by the amendments to the law.
