Sarajevo hosts official opening of regional conference 'Peace and Education: Vision 2030'

(Patria) - In Sarajevo, the three-day regional conference "Peace and Education: Vision 2030" will be officially opened today, organized by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and the "Step by Step" Center for Educational Initiatives.

The gathering, which actually began yesterday, will bring together more than 250 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region – including representatives of ministries of education, educational institutions, professors and teachers, civil society, youth organizations, the academic community, and UN agencies.

The conference aims to develop a regional roadmap for education that will shape young people to inherit non-violence – with a focus on the sustainable integration of peace pedagogy, social transformation through education, and response to demographic and technological challenges in educational systems.

Participants will actively contribute to developing proposals for concrete activities to improve education at all levels – from preschool to university – while identifying challenges and obstacles to their implementation.

The conference will once again provide an opportunity for all stakeholders – and especially teachers – to directly influence the shaping of meaningful and purposeful education.

As a result, the conference will present a regional roadmap for peace education, as a strategic document that will serve as a foundation for further action in BiH and the wider region.

This event is held within the framework of the United Nations Regional Initiative "Youth for Inclusion, Equality, and Trust," funded by the UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund, as well as the "Let's Get Closer" project, supported by the Italian Embassy in BiH with the aim of empowering youth for constructive narratives, strengthening intercultural dialogue, inclusion, gender equality, and trust-building in the region.

The regional conference "Peace and Education: Vision 2030" will be officially opened at the Movenpick Hotel in Sarajevo (Fra Filipa Lastrića Street), starting at 9:00 AM.
