Memorial to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the 101st Motorized Brigade of the Army of RBiH opened in Sarajevo

(Patria) - By laying flowers and paying tribute at the site of the Elementary School on Aneks, the Memorial to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the 101st Motorized Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was opened today with a special program.

This memorial will remain as a lasting reminder of the struggle for freedom for generations to come. This date, one of the most significant in the history of our homeland - Independence Day - also gives special weight to today's event.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, attended the ceremonial opening of the memorial today, stating that it is the obligation of all of us to build bridges to the past as a lasting reminder of preserving the freedom, sovereignty, and dignity of the state.

- Today, as we celebrate the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we stand here at the site of the Aneks elementary school - a place where new generations are educated - and we are reminded that the freedom we live did not come on its own.

It was defended by the courage of the members of the 101st Motorized Brigade and all defenders of our homeland. Their names engraved on this memorial are a lasting testament that we will preserve the truth, nurture a culture of remembrance, and build a state worthy of their sacrifice - Minister Osmanović said.

By opening this memorial, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence Day was marked in a way that connects the past, present, and future - in honor of those who made it possible for Bosnia and Herzegovina to celebrate its holiday freely and with dignity today.

The Sarajevo 101st Motorized Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was formed in 1993, and its zone of responsibility extended to the areas of the municipalities of Novo Sarajevo and Novi Grad.

In the final phase of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, this brigade was often engaged on battlefields outside the zone of responsibility of the 1st Corps of the Army of RBiH.

In its ranks, 8,157 soldiers fought for a free and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, while 26 of them were awarded the highest wartime recognition, the "Golden Lily".
