Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton: Investigation proceeding in multiple directions, technical soundness of the tram being determined, 30 witnesses interviewed, recordings seized

(Patria) - The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton issued a press release regarding the actions they are undertaking in the tram accident case.

"After the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo rejected the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton's proposal for a one-month detention for the tram driver, the acting prosecutors, respecting the court's stance, given that it determined there was a well-founded suspicion that the driver committed the criminal offense of endangering public traffic through negligence with fatal consequences, continued to intensively undertake evidence-gathering actions in the investigation of the tram accident, which is being handled by a team of prosecutors from the Department for General and Economic Crime and Corruption.

The investigation is proceeding in multiple directions, with a special emphasis on the technical soundness of the tram. So far, 30 witnesses have been interviewed, 10 video surveillance recordings from all surrounding buildings have been seized, including surveillance recordings from BH Telecom, the National Museum, the Technical School, and a recording from the tram cabin. All these video recordings are currently undergoing forensic processing. Extensive documentation related to the reconstruction of the entire tram line and the signal plans of all relevant intersections, which will be expertized, has also been seized from the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton.

Evidence is being collected with the aim of comprehensive expert examinations in mechanical, traffic, and electrical engineering.

Otherwise, the dynamics of work on this case will depend on the speed of action by investigators from police agencies, experts, other law enforcement agencies, and on the issuance of orders by the competent court that are necessary for any evidence-gathering actions in the field," the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton announced.
