Prosecutor insisted on arresting tram driver to 'calm the public'

(Patria) - Cantonal prosecutor Slaviša Lučić, head of the General Crime Department of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, insisted that tram driver Adnan Kasapović be arrested, Istraga learns.

According to information obtained by Istraga, Lučić told his subordinates that they must arrest the driver in order to “calm the public”.

This prosecutor was also at the scene investigation after the tram accident in which one person died and four were injured.

Srđan Skoko, the preliminary proceedings judge of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, rejected the prosecutor's office's proposal to order a one-month detention for the driver, stating that the driver did not have the intent to cause a traffic accident.

The judge also disputed the expert findings.

Recall, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo refused to order a one-month detention for tram driver Adnan Kasapović, who was operating the vehicle at the time of the fatal accident in which young man Erdoan Morankić died.

He was released yesterday, and in front of the Cantonal Court, he was greeted with applause by numerous colleagues.

The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office requested a one-month detention at the hearing, stating that the course of the investigation so far indicates that the accident was caused by a "human factor".

They stated that preliminary expert results showed that everything was in order with the tram, as well as with the electricity.

On the other hand, the driver said he was not guilty and that it was a technical malfunction of the tram.
