Trial of Senaid Memić Scheduled for Early December

(Patria) - A status conference was held today at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo in the case against Senaid Memić, former Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Malaysia and former Mayor of Ilidža Municipality.

Memić was arrested in Sarajevo on May 11th on the order of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, which charges him with abuse of position and authority.

At the status conference, it was agreed that the trial in this case would begin on December 4th of this year.

Incidentally, Memić was released from custody on June 2nd due to his deteriorating health, and the Cantonal Court confirmed the indictment on July 21st.

Memić is a member of the SDA party, which nominated him for the ambassadorial position in 2020. He is one of the founders of the SDA.

Previously, on May 15th, he was ordered into one month of detention and was held at the Zenica Penitentiary.

Memić is suspected of abusing his position as mayor while issuing permits to the Saudi investor "Malak Group".

In 2013, the investor received a permit to build a facility in the Ilidža area, which included a ground floor and four upper floors, reports RSE.

Two years later, the investor was granted permission by the Ilidža Municipality's Spatial Planning Service to build a seven-story facility.

"Senaid Memić is accused of illegally issuing multiple permits related to the construction of facilities for investors 'Panamera', 'Malak Group', and the Ilidža Municipality parking lot, which was leased to JU 'Brajlović', during his term from 2013 to mid-2017," stated the KS Prosecutor's Office on May 11th.

"Panamera" is a limited liability company for trade and services in Sarajevo. This company built a residential and commercial building in the Ilidža area. The company profile states it was founded in 2011.

The official website of the "Malak" group states that the owner is a businessman from Saudi Arabia. The company is involved in "investments in the wood industry, hospitality, construction, and real estate".

In addition to Memić, the indictment has also been confirmed for five other employees of the Ilidža Municipality who are charged with abuse of position and authority.

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina dismissed Memić from his ambassadorial post on May 22nd and appointed Edin Jahić in his place.
