(Patria) - The security situation in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is far from favorable or satisfactory. Murders, bombings, thefts, robberies, shootings in the city center, these are all frequent occurrences that convince the citizens of Sarajevo, no matter how much the authorities talk about a satisfactory security situation, that we have become the Wild West.
Deputies of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly began discussions at an emergency session, which was then adjourned. This session was awaited for weeks, as the chairman Elvedin Okerić initially refused to schedule the session requested by opposition deputies, and only convened the assembly when his party colleague Aljoša Čampara requested it.
And precisely at that assembly, deputies reminded that, along with the evident deteriorated security situation, it is imperative that we finally hear what happened to the person found in the Miljacka River on January 31, 2024.
The concerned public has still not received official information from the authorities about how the man lost his life, i.e., whether another murder was committed or if it was a suicide.
The Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton told Patria that all expert examinations have not yet been completed.
“In order to document all circumstances, the necessary expert examinations are being conducted to determine the exact cause of death. However, without the coroner's report and the completion of other ordered expert examinations, the KS Prosecutor's Office cannot currently comment on the cause of death,” said Azra Bavčić, spokesperson for the KS Prosecutor's Office.
She further stated that the identity of the person found in the Miljacka riverbed on 01/31/2024 has been established, but Bavčić could not say anything more.
Although we are entering the third month since the event, or more precisely, since the body was found, investigators are still determining the circumstances of the tragedy, and when there is no official information, it leaves room for speculation.
That is why stories continue to circulate in Sarajevo that it was a murder, and that someone is trying to cover up the entire case.
We remind that on that January 31, the Miljacka River did not have a high water level, and after several hours from the report, firefighters pulled the lifeless body of a man from the river with his head in a plastic bag taped shut.
The MUP KS at the time stated that it was a suicide, but such information has not been confirmed, especially since the KS Prosecutor's Office has not yet made a final prosecutorial decision.
