SBiH asks institutions to prevent spread of atmosphere of fear from the 'position of power' Konaković uses

(Patria) - The Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (SBiH) gives full support to the President of the Cantonal Council of SBiH Sarajevo and former Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Canton, Almir Bečarević, following threats made by the President of NiP and Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Elmedin Konaković.

"Konaković, whose name is mentioned in circles of drug cartels, resorted to intimidation methods because he is evidently afraid of Bečarević's testimony before the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton, who revealed in the show 'Investigation of the Week' that the presidents of Our Party and NiP exerted pressure on the arrested minister from Our Party, Bojan Bošnjak.

SBiH strongly condemns any form of pressure on witnesses in any case conducted by investigative authorities in our country, and expresses deep concern over such occurrences by individuals holding leadership positions in state institutions of BiH.

We believe that the threats are a result of Konaković's fear and panic over further investigative actions in this case.

We hereby call on the competent authorities, in this case the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton, which Bečarević informed about the threats, to take appropriate measures to prevent such cases in our social community, and to protect Bečarević as a witness.

Since the target of the attack in this case is a witness and a politically engaged person, we consider that swift institutional action is urgently needed to prevent the spread of an atmosphere of fear from the 'position of power' that Konaković uses," the SBiH stated.
