Regional Conference: Education Unions Exchange Experiences and Discuss Curriculum

(Patria) - A regional conference titled "Curriculum: Challenges, Experiences, and the Role of Education Unions" was held today, organized by the Independent Union of Primary Education and Upbringing of the Federation of BiH, the Independent Union of Secondary and Higher Education, Upbringing, Science, and Culture of BiH, and the Solidarity Center AFL-CIO.

In addition to representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, trade union representatives from Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Turkey, Kosovo, and Albania participated in the conference.

The conference was opened by Selvedin Šatorović, president of the Independent Union of Primary Education and Upbringing of the FBiH, emphasizing the importance of union action and the role of teachers in education reform. "Education unions have a responsibility to actively participate in the creation and implementation of the curriculum, as teachers best know the needs of students and the educational process," Šatorović stated. Edina Čomić, president of the Independent Union of Secondary and Higher Education, Upbringing, Science, and Culture of BiH, also addressed the attendees on behalf of the host country.

The keynote speakers at the conference were Mirza Mušija, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Denis Osmankić, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Una-Sana Canton, and Nadija Bandić, Assistant Federal Minister of Education for the Integral Education and Development Sector.

During the conference, the importance of actively involving teachers in the development and adaptation of the curriculum to the needs of students and society was highlighted. A special segment was dedicated to proposals for improving the role of teachers in the creation and implementation of the curriculum, with an exchange of experiences from unions from BiH, the region, and abroad.

It was concluded that a quality curriculum is not possible without the cooperation of teachers, unions, and institutions, and that the recommendations from the conference will be used in the further improvement of educational policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
