Goran Salihović, former Chief Prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has passed away

(Patria) - Former Chief State Prosecutor Goran Salihović passed away last night at the age of 65. Salihović died last night at UKC Tuzla after a short illness.

He was diagnosed with stomach cancer in November last year, after which he spent some time in hospital and on home treatment.

He lost his battle with the serious illness.

Goran Salihović was born in Tuzla in 1959.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Sarajevo in 1986, and the following year he was employed as an operational analyst in the Internal Affairs Service in Lukavac.

After two years in the police service, Salihović began his career in the judiciary – first as a judge of the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Lukavac, and for one year as the president of this court. At the beginning of the war in 1992, he moved to the Higher Misdemeanor Court in Tuzla, and two years later he was appointed president of the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Tuzla.

He led this judicial institution for the next eight years, after which, upon being elected president of the Cantonal Misdemeanor Court in Tuzla, he advanced his career again.

He held this position until 2005 when he moved to Sarajevo to head the Municipal Court. For the next eight years, Salihović led the largest local court in the country, and the next step in his career followed in February 2013 when he was elected to head the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
