Indictment confirmed against four police officers for beating a 14-year-old from Osmaci

(Patria) - The Basic Court in Zvornik confirmed the indictment against four police officers from Osmaci who are charged with, as officials, abusing their authority and participating in the severe abuse and physical injury of a minor, thereby committing the criminal offense of "violation of human dignity by abuse of official position or authority".

The District Public Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina indicted the commander of the Police Station in Osmaci, Dejan Marković, known as Deša, criminal inspector Novica Popović, and police officers Rajko Đurić and Dragan Milutinović, writes Detektor.ba.

The confirmed indictment stated that these police officers participated in the "unjustified and excessive use of physical force", thereby, by abusing their authority, committing intimidation and physical injury of another, as well as acting in a manner that violates human dignity.

It was explained that the minor A.J. was interrogated by police officers in Osmaci without the presence of legally designated persons, and that Dejan Marković "delivered a blow with an open fist to the face", and then intimidated him with a weapon, and delivered additional blows to the neck and shoulders.

For the remaining three accused, it was stated that they did not take any action to prevent Marković from beating the minor, and that during the interrogation, Đurić "began to break his fingers by pulling them one by one", while Popović and Milutinović drove him in a police vehicle, during which Milutinović hit him in the arms and legs.

As a reminder, at the end of August last year in Osmaci, not far from Zvornik, fourteen-year-old Ajdin Jusić was beaten. He was interrogated by police officers at the local police station, without the presence of his father or lawyer, who then beat him.

He told Detektor journalists that the police officers twisted his fingers and handcuffed him, and demanded that he tell them who had been robbing houses in the village.

The police officers did not allow his father to go into the hallway. When he managed to get out, he found the police officers holding Ajdin by the hand, pressed against the wall. He asked them why they were interrogating Ajdin without parental presence, but he says he received rude answers to get out of the way.

- At that moment, I heard Ajdin screaming, shouting: "I can't admit what I don't know." And I heard the child crying, shouting: "Don't touch me", and the crying stopped - Juso Jusić recalled earlier.

The police officers drove Ajdin in front of his house and left him there unconscious, his father Juso said earlier, who reported the police officers to internal control, and a day later to the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska stated in a press release that they had received a report of illegal conduct during the taking of a statement from a minor and that they had informed the Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina of everything. The police officers were suspended, but it is not yet known if they have been disciplined.
