Agreement Signed for Renovation of the National Theatre Facade in Sarajevo

(Patria) - The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton announced today its strategic commitment to improving cultural infrastructure, with a special emphasis on preserving national heritage sites.

In this spirit, an Agreement on co-financing the renovation and restoration of the facade of the National Theatre building in Sarajevo was signed, amounting to 1,200,000 KM.

The National Theatre, as the oldest umbrella theatre institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, holds exceptional artistic and historical value. It encompasses four equal artistic segments - Drama, Opera, Ballet, and the Sarajevo Philharmonic.

Furthermore, this theatre hosts the most significant international festivals such as the Sarajevo Film Festival, MESS, Jazz Fest, Balet Fest, and other cultural events of special importance for Sarajevo Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The City of Sarajevo, as the holder of the project implementation, will assume the role of implementer and coordinator of all activities in the renovation process. The City will also cover costs that may exceed the funds provided by the Ministry.

The Minister of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, Kenan Magoda, stated that this reconstruction aims not only to preserve cultural and historical heritage but also to improve conditions for holding artistic and cultural events of global significance, thereby further strengthening Sarajevo's position as a regional center of culture and art.

- After twenty years, all residents of Sarajevo Canton, artists, and employees deserve for our true beauty to shine in its full glory. In addition to the facade reconstruction, a complete replacement of the carpentry is also planned.

For years, this institution has been neglected and overlooked by various policies. However, the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the Ministry of Culture and Sports have shown that they are different - responsible and dedicated.

Through budgets and capital investments, we have proven that culture has always been our top priority - said Magoda.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton continues to work diligently on projects that contribute to the development of cultural identity and the preservation of national monuments for future generations.
