OSCE on Femicide in Mostar: Adopt Clearer and More Consistent Regulations on Firearms Possession

(Patria) - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina has expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Aldina Jahić, the victim of a tragic murder in Mostar.

The Mission emphasizes that this crime painfully highlights that gender-based violence will continue unless attitudes and institutions change.

"Despite recent reforms implemented in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attacks on women and the murder of women remain all too common.

The Mission calls on the authorities of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to investigate and carry out all necessary procedures comprehensively and in a timely manner.

In addition, the Mission reminds authorities at all levels in BiH of the need to strengthen preventive measures by adopting clearer and more consistent regulations on firearms possession and ensuring the swift confiscation of weapons in cases of suspected gender-based violence.

The Mission will continue to advocate for effective victim-centered responses and full accountability of relevant institutions in addressing violence against women," the statement from the OSCE Mission to BiH reads.
