Novo Sarajevo Municipality Begins Construction of the 'Vinko Šamarlić' Sports and Recreation Center

(Patria) - After almost two years of administrative and other necessary activities that prevented visible and concrete changes on the ground, the construction of the "Vinko Šamarlić" Sports and Recreation Center, the most demanding capital project of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality, has begun.

The former Shooting Range building has been demolished, and landslide remediation work is underway.
So far, external works within the complex have been carried out through ongoing maintenance: rehabilitation of the existing sports field, arrangement of pedestrian paths and access road, clearing and cleaning of branches and bushes, arrangement of the parking area, planting of new trees and ornamental shrubs, etc.

The project is complex and will be carried out in phases. By the end of the year, a building permit is expected to be issued to secure funds for the reconstruction of existing facilities that will house services operating within Civil Protection, premises for the educational center, and most importantly, a Memorial Room dedicated to Vinko Šamarlić and Šemsa Baručija.

The construction of a park is also planned, which will have all accompanying facilities and modern communal infrastructure, urban equipment with fitness and children's play equipment.
Residents of Velešići and surrounding settlements will gain a five-hectare modern sports and recreation zone where they can spend their free time and enjoy various activities and facilities.
