Ilidža Municipality continues to support the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center

(Patria) - The Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Nermin Muzur, today attended the marking of the 20th anniversary of the official opening of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, memorial and cemetery for the victims of the 1995 genocide.

Before the gathering at the cemetery of the Memorial Center, Mayor Muzur visited the director of the Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić, and signed an agreement with the President of the Management Board of the Memorial Center, Hamdija Fejzić, under which the Ilidža Municipality will support the work of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center with 25,000 KM.

- Supporting the work of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center is an obligation for all of us, and I can proudly say that it is a permanent item in the Budget of the Ilidža Municipality - said Nermin Muzur, Mayor of the Ilidža Municipality, which has supported the work of the Memorial Center with a total of 100,000 KM over the past three years.

During his visit to Srebrenica, the Mayor emphasized that the work done by the employees of the Memorial Center is extremely important for preserving the culture of remembrance of the genocide committed against the Bosniak people in Srebrenica in mid-1995.

- Srebrenica must be important to all of us. We must talk about it, as well as other places where genocide occurred, and take care of it every day - emphasized Mayor Muzur.

In addition to financial support, the Ilidža Municipality has for years, in cooperation with Ilidža elementary schools, organized visits to the Memorial Center for eighth-grade students, and by this year, more than 10,000 students and teachers have visited Potočari.

- Preserving the memory of the genocide and caring for the returnee population in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be a task for all of us, and the Ilidža Municipality has been and will remain alongside the Bosniak returnees - said Mayor Muzur, who paid tribute to the victims of the genocide by laying flowers and reciting the Fatiha.
