Construction of the "Wings of Freedom" monument on Žuč hill completed, grand opening on June 8

(Patria) - The completion of the "Wings of Freedom" monument on Golo Brdo, in the municipality of Novi Grad, on Žuč hill, where decisive battles for the defense of Sarajevo and BiH were fought, will be officially marked on Saturday, June 8 - the Day of Defense of the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo and the Battle for Žuč hill.

The program at Golo Brdo starts at 2 PM, and the central event at 5 PM. The program will be broadcast live by Hayat television. Transportation to and from Golo Brdo is provided for visitors, along with a rich cultural and entertainment program, including a concert of patriotic songs.

The "Wings of Freedom" monument is a symbol of victory, defense, and remembrance of the bravest sons of our homeland. It is currently the largest monument in Sarajevo, symbolizing the courage, resistance, and heroism of the heroes who defended this city from aggression.

The grandiose monument in the form of a stylized bird is part of the Žuč Memorial Complex. The wingspan of the "Wings of Freedom" is 25 meters, and the height is 16 meters. The monument will be illuminated and visible from numerous locations in Sarajevo.

The total investment by the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo to date at the Golo Brdo site, where the "Wings of Freedom" were built, amounted to KM 1,330,000, of which KM 548,000 was allocated for the purchase of approximately 80,000 square meters of land, while the construction of the "Wings of Freedom" monument cost KM 665,000, and KM 120,000 was spent on the project of trenches and ditches.

Efendić published new photos of the Wings of Freedom monument on Žuč hill

(Patria) - The Wings of Freedom monument will be opened on Žuč hill on June 8, and the Mayor of Novi Grad Municipality, Semir Efendić, has published photos of the memorial monument. That date is celebrated as the Day of Novi Grad Municipality and the Day of the Battle for Žuč hill.

The project was financially supported by the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs of KS with funds in the amount of KM 375,000 and the Public Institution Fund of Memories of KS in the amount of KM 122,000. Also, the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo financially supported the creation of the conceptual design of this monument.

The conceptual design of the monument was chosen through a competition conducted in cooperation with three municipalities - Novi Grad, Novo Sarajevo, Vogošća, and the Fund of Memories in 2015, and from the proposed solutions, the "Wings of Freedom" solution by authors Hamdija and Emir Salihović was selected.

In addition to the "Wings of Freedom" monument, external landscaping around the monument is planned, for which an agreement has been signed between the Municipality and the Canton of Sarajevo, and a museum will be built in the future.

In addition, the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo is working on a project to widen the road from the "Hall of Liberators" to Golo Brdo to ensure easier access to this historically important site.

As a place of permanent commemoration and remembrance of the heroic battles, the Municipality built the Hall of Liberators on Žuč in 2018, the entrance gate to the Memorial Complex.



"We invite the families of martyrs and fallen soldiers, war disabled veterans, demobilized soldiers, their families, civilian victims of the past war, and all other citizens, patriots, to come to Golo Brdo on Saturday to jointly mark the Day of Defense and Victory on Žuč, to remember all those who deserve credit for the freedom we live in today," it was announced from the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo.
