Detention ordered for Darko Petrović who posted glorifying war crimes posters in Tuzla and at Kapija

(Patria) - The Municipal Court of Tuzla accepted the proposal of the acting prosecutor and ordered a one-month detention for Darko Petrović (47) from Tuzla due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the extended criminal offense of inciting national, racial, and religious hatred, discord, or intolerance.

Petrović is suspected that, in the period from March 31 to May 27, 2024, at public places, shop windows, cars, a hair salon, and on a concrete pillar bearing the plaque of the Memorial Center "Kapija" in Tuzla, knowing that inter-ethnic relations in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are complex, he wrote messages on papers and posted them at these public locations, thereby approving and glorifying crimes committed during the war against the constituent peoples in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the night of May 26, 2024, after the anniversary of the massacre at Kapija in Tuzla was marked on May 25, 2024, he posted two papers with written messages glorifying this crime at the Memorial Center "Kapija," which caused distress among a large number of citizens, thereby publicly inciting national hatred and discord.

Following operational field work and information gathering, members of the Criminal Police Department of the Tuzla Police Administration identified the suspect, and he was deprived of his liberty on June 4, 2024. After criminal processing, along with a report on the committed criminal offense, he was handed over to the Prosecutor's Office.

The acting prosecutor issued an order to conduct an investigation and examined the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
