(Patria) - The anniversary of the formation of the 105th Motorized Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked today at the Mala Kula memorial on Grdonj, and tribute was paid to its heroes.
Flowers were laid at the memorial and tribute was paid to the heroes of this brigade by, among others, the relevant cantonal minister Omer Osmanović, and Slaven Kovačević, on behalf of the Cabinet of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić.
The marking of the 33rd anniversary began on Thursday with a ceremonial session of the Municipal Council of the Centar municipality, where brigade members, families, and numerous guests gathered to jointly evoke memories of the struggle for the homeland's freedom. In his address at the memorial on Grdonj, Minister Osmanović once again reminded that heroes are not forgotten, but also emphasized the imperative of the state being above all else.
“Today, marking the 33rd anniversary of the 105th Motorized Brigade, we pay tribute to the courage, dignity, and sacrifice of those who defended our homeland. Their struggle and the lives they laid down are an enduring obligation to preserve the freedom, truth, and peace we live today.
Their sacrifice obliges us to be worthy of the peace we live today, to preserve the truth about the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to never allow forgetfulness. It is our duty to build a society of justice, solidarity, and respect for every defender and the families of martyrs and fallen defenders.
The state must be above all – above divisions and transient interests – because only a strong state can be a guarantee of security and the future for new generations,” Minister Osmanović stated.
As part of the commemoration, thank-you notes and plaques were awarded to all those who supported the association's work in any way. On this occasion, three of the best literary works on the theme of the 105th Motorized Brigade were also read, and their authors – elementary school students from this municipality – received thank-you notes and appropriate monetary awards.
The brave fighters of the 105th Motorized Brigade participated in all battles for the defense of Sarajevo from aggression from 1992-1995, as well as in numerous battlefields across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through the ranks of the brigade passed 7,000 fighters, of whom 317 were killed and 2,000 were wounded.
