33rd Anniversary of the Battle of Poljine Marked

(Patria) - Members of the families of the fallen, comrades-in-arms, representatives of the Canton of Sarajevo and the municipalities of Centar, Novo Sarajevo and Novi Grad, as well as veterans' associations from these municipalities, today laid flowers, recited Fatiha, and observed a minute of silence to honor the fallen members of the First Podrinje Brigade who, on July 31, 1992, together with local units from the municipalities of Centar, Vogošća, Novi Grad, and a unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, laid down their lives in the battles at Poljine for the defense of our country.

On behalf of the Municipality of Centar, flowers were laid by the Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council Dženan Mulić, councilors Mirza Konaković, Dževad Vrabac, Orhan Milišić, Velija Katica, Jasmin Šljivo, Nermin Kapo, Adel Muratović, Din Začinović, and Adis Adilović from the Service for Veterans' and Disabled Persons' Affairs and Social Protection.

Ejub Svraka, president of the "101 Brigade" Association, addressed those present on this occasion.

–Our brigade was tasked with unblocking Sarajevo in order to join the units defending Goražde from the aggressor on our country, via Vogošća and Romanija.

After we managed to break through the first enemy lines, their artillery heavily bombarded our positions, and that's when we realized they were expecting us. Only God knows how we survived such enemy shelling without greater losses, Svraka stated.

The following fell in the battle of Poljine: Enver Ademi, Senad Bajrić, Kemal Čolak, Mehmed Hadrović, Vahid Kahriman, Muris Komarica, Asim Prazina, Enver Šukalo, Zajko Šalaka, Izet Sipović, Edhem Zametica, and Husein Fejzić.

Delegations also laid flowers in front of the nearby memorial at Šip in Dejzina Bikića Street, where plaques with the names of 57 fallen members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina are displayed, and paid their respects by reciting Fatiha and observing a minute of silence.
