NES BiH: We demand that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina declare July 11 a day of mourning in Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - The Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide was adopted in the United Nations General Assembly on May 23 of this year.

Point 1 of the Resolution decided that July 11 be declared the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995, which will be commemorated every year.

NES reminds all institutions and bodies in Bosnia and Herzegovina that they are obliged, in accordance with their competencies, to ensure the implementation of all provisions of the adopted Resolution, and the appropriate and dignified commemoration of July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995 throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this regard, we demand that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina declare July 11 a day of mourning in Bosnia and Herzegovina, for the purpose of commemorating the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995, and adjusting the program content of media, cultural, artistic and sports events on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Taking into account Point 2 of the Resolution, we call on all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina to include the Srebrenica genocide as a historical event in educational systems, in order to preserve all established facts, as well as by developing appropriate programs, all for the purpose of remembrance and with the aim of preventing, denying and distorting facts, and the occurrence of genocide in the future.

We call on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to initiate activities for the establishment of an information program entitled "Srebrenica Genocide and the United Nations", especially in light of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary next year, so that all member states are timely and adequately informed about the content of the Resolution and attention is drawn to its observance.

As Point 7 of the United Nations General Assembly called on all member states to commemorate July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995, we believe that Bosnian-Herzegovinian society as a whole should accept this call as a sign of remembrance and tribute to all victims of the genocide, and each year commemorate it in a dignified manner with an appropriate program, education and activities to raise public awareness throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, NES announced.
