Orange Warning for Sarajevo: Heavy Rainfall, Strong Wind and Hail Threaten, Possibility of Urban Flooding

(Patria) - The Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Sarajevo Canton issued a warning today to legal and natural persons due to forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong wind gusts and the possibility of hail across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As announced, the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute issued an orange warning for June 3, 2026, with between 20 and 30 litres of precipitation per square metre expected over a three-hour period.

The Civil Protection warns that there is a possibility of urban flooding in the area of Sarajevo Canton as well, which is why they called on all competent services, institutions, and citizens to immediately take preventive protection and rescue measures.

"It is necessary to prepare adequate forces and material-technical resources for a rapid response to the forecast precipitation, strong wind gusts and hail, in order to prevent major material damage, possible injuries and human casualties," the warning stated.

A special appeal was sent to municipal civil protection services in Sarajevo Canton to put their organised forces on standby so that they are ready to respond as first responders in the event of heavier precipitation, strong wind and hail.

Civil Protection also warned legal entities carrying out construction work not to leave objects on roofs and scaffolding that could endanger the safety of citizens due to strong wind.

Citizens were advised to remove objects from balconies and other open spaces that could be carried away by the wind, not to park vehicles near large trees, and to avoid staying outdoors during the duration of the orange warning.

The Cantonal Civil Protection Administration reminds that all entities are obliged to immediately report any danger or occurrence that could lead to a natural or other disaster to the Cantonal Civil Protection Operations Centre at number 121, which is available 24 hours a day.
