Floods and flash floods possible in the Neretva and Trebižat river basins

(Patria) - Due to the expected continuation of heavy rainfall, which will be locally very intense, in the water area of the Adriatic Sea basin, especially in the lower part of the Neretva and Trebižat river basins, watercourses may overflow their banks and flash floods may occur.

The hydrological event is expected to begin on March 26, with the peak of the water wave predicted for March 29 and 30, according to the Agency for the Adriatic Sea Basin Mostar.

Competent institutions are advised to closely monitor the situation and act in accordance with their powers, applying the Federal Operational Plan for Flood Defense. Services implementing protection and rescue measures are recommended to exercise additional caution.

The population in endangered areas, especially along rivers without constructed protective structures, should be warned of the danger of approaching the banks due to the possible increase in water depth and flow speed, the statement said.

It is further added that competent civil protection services should issue timely notices with instructions and guidelines for behavior in order to reduce possible material damage and risks to citizens' safety.

The notice was issued based on predicted rainfall, with a note that possible changes in weather conditions may affect the predicted hydrological situation.
