Merhamet sends 100 tonnes of flour to Gaza, convoy expected to arrive tomorrow

(Patria) - The Muslim Charitable Society (MDD) "Merhamet" sent five truckloads of flour to the population of Gaza today. This amounts to 100 tonnes of this essential foodstuff, with a total value of approximately 209,000 convertible marks.

According to the president of "Merhamet", Kenan Vrbanjac, the flour should arrive at its destination as early as tomorrow, where it will be distributed to the vulnerable population in Gaza.

- The funds for the purchase of 100 tonnes of flour were secured by "Merhamet" in cooperation with the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One truck, i.e. 20 tonnes of flour, was financed by three BiH businessmen from Tešanj, Travnik and Mostar, who wished to remain anonymous – says Vrbanjac.

He adds that during the ongoing aid collection campaign for Gaza, "Merhamet" has collected more than 900,000 KM intended for the vulnerable population in Gaza.

- In cooperation with the Turkish partner organisation IHH, "Merhamet" has been helping the vulnerable in Gaza since the beginning of the hostilities. It started with emergency packages, and then with the daily preparation of meals for the population in that area, as well as for the sick and wounded in local hospitals. Meals are prepared in IHH's field kitchens. Incidentally, "Merhamet" and IHH have also organised meal preparation for the population of Gaza over the past two years, so we have experience in this – Vrbanjac emphasised.

By a decision of the Management Board of HO "Merhamet" MDD, the aid collection campaign for the population of Gaza, which originally lasted until 16 January this year, has been extended for another three months.

- "Merhamet" will continue to help the population of Gaza, affected by Israeli war operations. We thank the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH, companies, educational and other institutions who have, once again, shown solidarity and empathy towards people in need. Thanks to all of them, "Merhamet" manages to provide valuable assistance that the population of Gaza desperately needs – Vrbanjac emphasised, as stated by MDD 'Merhamet'.
