Concert in memory of Prof. Dževad Šabanagić opens new MAS Concert Season

(Patria) - A concert in memory of Prof. Dževad Šabanagić (1945 –2024), a respected violinist and long-time professor at the University of Sarajevo's Music Academy, was held on November 6, 2025, marking the opening of the MAS Concert Season 2025/26. On this occasion, the “SA Sinfonietta” String Quartet performed, consisting of Alma Dizdar (violin), Tamara Arsovski (violin), Aida Deljkić (viola), and Belma Alić (cello), all former students of Prof. Šabanagić.

The program included Antonín Dvořák's String Quartet in F major, Op. 96 (American Quartet) and Franz Schubert's String Quartet in D minor, D 810 (Death and the Maiden) – works that were a favorite and integral part of Šabanagić's artistic and pedagogical repertoire, through which he left an exceptional mark on Sarajevo's musical life and strongly influenced the development of various generations of musicians.

The musical interpretation will be narratively rounded off by an ekphrastic text in which literary critic and editor Vladimir Arsenić will offer a literary reflection on the concert.

In accordance with the Day of Mourning declared in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina following the loss of life of residents at the Home for the Elderly in Tuzla, the University of Sarajevo's Music Academy paid tribute to the victims of this tragic event during the concert.

The concert was held as part of the project “Ekphrastic Themes,” realized by the Association for the Development of Musical Art and Pedagogy “String Attached Sinfonietta” in cooperation with the Association “Hila” from Serbia and the University of Sarajevo's Music Academy, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton.
