(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić attended today the unveiling of the "Srebrenica Flower" monument in the United Nations garden in New York.
This symbol of remembrance was installed just over a year after the United Nations adopted the Resolution on the genocide committed in Srebrenica.
Komšić emphasized that the adoption of the Resolution is an important step forward in the culture of remembrance and the global fight against the repetition of genocide anywhere in the world.
He recalled that, despite pressures, the Resolution and the judicial truth established by the decisions of the International Criminal Court have become part of the international order.
He also stated that the monument in New York is another important place for preserving memory, similar to the one recently erected in Vienna.
He also said that it is important to remind of the role of the UN, both in establishing the truth about the genocide and in its responsibility for the events of July 1995.
He stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina must never again entrust the fate of its citizens to others, and that the adopted Resolution serves as a warning, not a guarantee.
He also stated that the pain of Srebrenica is primarily the pain of its mothers, children, and the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that this truth must not be concealed.
The "Srebrenica Flower" in the UN garden, he said, represents a reminder, a warning, and a symbol of caution at a time when the world is again witnessing wars and serious crimes.
Finally, he thanked all those who contribute to preserving the memory of the victims of genocide and strengthening the culture of truth.
