Security Commission of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly: Call to protest participants not to disturb public order and peace

(Patria) - The Security Commission of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly discussed the security situation in the Sarajevo Canton at today's session.

After the session, Elvedin Okerić, the Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly and this commission, addressed the attendees, revealing that the session was also attended by the resigned Minister of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica, the Police Commissioner of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Fatmir Hajdarević, and the Chief Prosecutor of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, Meliha Dugalija.

Seven conclusions were adopted at the session concerning the current situation after the tragic tram accident on February 12, in which 23-year-old Erdoan Morankić was killed, while four other people were injured.

The Commission took note of the information regarding the resignation of Prime Minister Nihad Uk, i.e., the KS Government. The Commission also adopted a conclusion calling on all organizers and participants of protests to express their views in a peaceful and dignified manner without disturbing public order and peace. The Commission also appealed to all social actors not to raise tensions by publishing unverified information. They called on the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office to inform the public in a timely and transparent manner about the progress of the investigation into the accident, and they gave full support to the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton.

Okerić, when asked about the procedure for electing a new KS Government, replied that the Commission for Elections and Appointments of the KS Assembly will meet on Thursday, February 19, after which, depending on its outcome, the Collegium will meet, and then the KS Assembly will be convened to discuss the resignation of Nihad Uk and the KS Government.

Okerić then spoke about a potential new majority and a new KS Government.

"It is difficult to prejudge. The political parties forming the majority will make those decisions. The period until the elections is short, during which the citizens of the Sarajevo Canton will have the opportunity to recognize who has worked in their interest and how. Citizens will have the opportunity to evaluate all of us very soon," Okerić emphasized.
