Canton Sarajevo Assembly Collegium: No ad hoc activities, regardless of assessments by individuals from the government, opposition, or certain media

(Patria) - The Collegium of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly has announced a session for tomorrow to discuss incoming information from competent institutions in the security sector, and on that occasion issued the following statement:

“Recent events in Canton Sarajevo have alarmed our citizens. Therefore, the Collegium of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly requested information from institutions responsible for implementing conclusions from the previous thematic session on traffic safety. Regarding the scheduling of a new thematic session of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly, the Collegium will hold a session tomorrow to consider the information gathered so far and request that other competent institutions which have not yet submitted information do so, as the security situation in Canton Sarajevo depends on their work.

The Collegium of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly will not undertake any ad hoc activities within the legislative authority's competence related to security based on assessments by individuals, regardless of whether they come from the opposition or the parliamentary majority and ruling coalition, or intensified reporting by certain media, but exclusively based on information from competent institutions in Canton Sarajevo and professional recommendations.

We emphasize that the Ministry of Interior and the Police Administration of Canton Sarajevo, although the most prominent, are not the only actors in creating the security environment and cannot ensure it independently. The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, courts, and certain line ministries in the Government of Canton Sarajevo also actively participate in shaping the overall security situation. Therefore, it is important that all of them inform the Collegium of the Assembly about the activities undertaken, so that, depending on the content and complexity of the matter, planning for a thematic session can proceed, where all causes and problems affecting security in the area of Canton Sarajevo would be discussed,” the statement from the Collegium of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly reads.
