SDP BiH Club: Investigate all allegations from published messages, but also shed light on the 'leaking' of information to the media

(Patria) - Head of the SDP BiH Club Damir Mašić stated today that the SDP Club is seeking a swift, professional, and impartial investigation of all allegations, without political pressure, and that the law must apply equally to everyone in the "Spengavanje" affair, after correspondence between Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić and acting FUP Director Vahidin Munjić was published, concerning certain investigations, but also the potential "spengavanje" (loosening/letting go) of some criminals.

"First and foremost, as the Club of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we want to very clearly, unequivocally, and transparently call on all competent authorities to investigate all allegations that have been presented in the media in recent days and to do their job professionally, responsibly, and without political pressure. We have always been of the opinion that the law must be equal for everyone and that no one can be 'more equal' than anyone else," said Mašić, adding that previously reported high damages to budgets and public companies must also be investigated.

"In line with this principled stance, we insist and demand that all criminal charges filed against individuals who managed public companies, ministries, and everything else that has caused multi-million dollar damages to the Federation of BiH also be investigated. We are seeking the truth, but we insist that the truth be determined by institutions – not individuals, not anonymous sources, not political spins of any kind. Only facts and the law".

Mašić also welcomed the move by Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić to request a verification of the previous allegations himself.

"We welcome the call by the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, Mr. Nermin Nikšić, who himself addressed the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, the Special Department for Organized Crime and Corruption, and requested that all possible allegations made about his alleged mediation and everything else that appeared in the media be verified. His move shows that no one is and must not be above the law. It is not an escape from responsibility, on the contrary – he personally requested that any responsibility be determined," emphasized Mašić.

The SDP, he added, also expects a swift clarification of the leaking of information from investigative files.

"We believe it is equally important to investigate how data is leaking from investigative files – these are serious criminal offenses. It doesn't matter who the target is, it matters that the law applies equally to everyone. We expect the competent institutions to shed light on the methods and circumstances under which investigations and processes, which citizens are often unaware of, are being jeopardized and can be called into question by such actions," Mašić stated.

Finally, he also reminded of the anti-corruption measures that the SDP highlights as a priority.

"The SDP has declared the fight against crime and corruption as one of its most important priorities. We will not abandon this goal, and Prime Minister Nikšić, the entire Government, and judicial bodies will have our absolute support in achieving it. We insist on a swift clarification of all circumstances – the only way to establish the true and adequate truth is for institutions to do their job. We will give full support to all institutions, including judicial ones, to perform their duties unimpeded, professionally, and impartially," Mašić concluded.


An extraordinary session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the FBiH is expected to be held in November at the request of 20 opposition representatives, whose deputies today, during parliamentary questions, sought clarification from those implicated in the "Spengavanje" affair.
