Cantonal Council of the Party for BiH: The government in Sarajevo Canton must explain why it is implementing a 'silent reduction' of water?

(Patria) - The Cantonal Council of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina Sarajevo wishes to remind the entire public, and especially the public company Vodovod i kanalizacija, the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection, of Article 31 of the Law on Waters of Sarajevo Canton.

The aforementioned Article 31 states: "The legislative and executive bodies of the Canton, the bodies of the City, municipalities, legal entities, as well as citizens of the Canton, are obliged, each within the scope of their rights and obligations and real economic possibilities, to implement measures and activities that will ensure that all citizens of the Canton and other users of drinking water in the area of the Canton are in an equal position when it comes to the supply of drinking water, both in terms of quantity and quality of water."

"Currently, in Sarajevo Canton, there is a 'silent reduction' of water, and many settlements are irregularly supplied with water or have been without it for days. Those responsible are silent about this problem, and by acting in this way, they directly place the citizens of the Canton in an unequal position when it comes to the supply of drinking water, both in terms of quantity and quality of water. In some settlements, it has already become common for citizens to have to go to other parts of the city to wash their laundry, because they have been without water for days," state from the Cantonal Council of the Party for BiH Sarajevo.

It is added that the citizens of the Canton are already accustomed to public companies not performing their regular functions except to follow government officials and directors as they regularly take photos for various needs and praise themselves.

"However, this inaction and hiding of those responsible from the public, as well as the absence of providing accurate information about the water supply, is now turning into a possible problem of criminal liability, because citizens in Sarajevo Canton are not all in an equal position now. Many are deprived of water, and this deprivation is not at all accompanied by adequate notifications and warnings so that citizens could at least prepare for hours or days without water. At the same time, what are the inspection bodies doing, what are the ministries doing, what is the Government of Sarajevo Canton doing? NOTHING. Everyone is silent and implementing a 'SILENT REDUCTION OF WATER IN SARAJEVO CANTON'. Finally, one question to the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the competent ministry: Have you prepared a decision on increasing the price of water and when do you intend to bring the company ViK to a state where it can at any moment respond to the calls of citizens who watch streams of water flowing down the streets, while at home they have dry taps?" the statement says.
