Inspection of hookah bars in Sarajevo Canton: 10 establishments sealed, nearly 50,000 KM in fines issued

(Patria) - Inspectors of the Federal Revenue Administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Cantonal Revenue Office Sarajevo on April 24, 2026, conducted 34 inspections of taxpayers engaged in the hospitality business - hookah bars in the Sarajevo Canton area.

The subject of the controls was the verification of compliance with the provisions of the Law on the Revenue Administration of the Federation of BiH, the Law on Fiscal Systems in the Federation of BiH, the Law on the Unified System of Registration, Control and Collection of Contributions, the Law on Contributions, and other tax regulations.

During the inspections, 45 registered workers and 11 unregistered workers were found, as well as 8 taxpayers who had not registered turnover through a fiscal device.


Due to identified irregularities, such as employing unregistered workers and failing to register turnover through a fiscal device, 10 establishments were sealed and in 19 controls, misdemeanor orders were issued with a total of 47,800 KM in fines.

The Federal Revenue Administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue controls of taxpayers in the hospitality sector, including hookah bars, in other cantons in the coming period, and calls on taxpayers to align their business operations with applicable laws.

The legal obligation of every taxpayer is to register every worker in the Unified System of Registration, Control and Collection of Contributions, to duly register all turnover through fiscal devices, and to regularly settle tax obligations in accordance with regulations, in order to avoid sanctions.
