Hurtić presents Pope Francis with a silver Srebrenica Flower

(Patria) - Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sevlid Hurtić, today, June 26, 2024,
attended a general audience with the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, at the Vatican.

After the audience, Minister Hurtić spoke with the Pope, expressing gratitude for the honor of
attending today's audience.

Minister Hurtić highlighted the importance of interreligious dialogue throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and the strengthening of cooperation between the Holy See and all religious communities in our country. He emphasized that the citizens of our country deeply appreciate the support that the Vatican has continuously provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina, from its recognition in April 1992 to the present day.

He added that the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide will be marked in two weeks, and invited the Pope to attend the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Potočari next year, which would be of great significance for the families of the victims and survivors, as well as for spreading the truth and fostering a culture of remembrance.

Minister Hurtić presented the head of the Catholic Church with a book about the Srebrenica genocide and a silver Srebrenica Flower, which is one of the symbols of the genocide.

Together with Minister Hurtić, the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Vatican, Igor Žontar, also attended today's audience.
