Will Elmedin Konaković remain the president of NIP until the next General Elections and Congress?

(Patria) - Nermin Nikšić will remain at the head of the SDP until 2027. This was decided by the Congress held on July 5 in Sarajevo.

The president of Our Party, Edin Forto, has already announced the holding of a Congress on October 11, where a new president will be elected.

Elmedin Konaković is at the head of People and Justice. He was elected president at the Congress in November 2021 for a five-year term.

According to the Statute of NIP, a regular Congress is held every five years, and depending on the needs, it can be convened earlier (extraordinary).

The Statute stipulates that the initiative to convene an extraordinary Congress must be made by at least 1/3 (one third) of the party's municipal organizations, 1/3 (one third) of the cantonal/regional organizations of the party, and 1/3 (one third) of the members of the Main Board.

The Statute also provides for an extraordinary Congress

Although People and Justice, under Konaković's leadership, achieved good results in the General Elections since 2018, and after 2022 formed the government at all levels, and he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he is also under the scrutiny of investigative bodies. The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed that it is investigating the financing of this party, and Konaković is linked to members of the drug cartel Tito and Dino from Dubai.

Such a burden has also raised the question of his continued leadership of the party, or a change of president of NIP.

Konaković's term expires in November 2026, which would mean he will lead NIP in the next General Elections in October 2026. If dissatisfaction grows within NIP, the possibility of an extraordinary Congress is not excluded.

It is up to the NIP bodies to assess the situation and decide whether Konaković has become a burden or still enjoys full support within the party.

Given his "transparency," it is not excluded that Konaković himself might propose an extraordinary congress.
