(Patria) - The political scene in 2025 was turbulent. At the beginning of last year, the BiH Court convicted the former president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, thus showing that BiH institutions can indeed deal with "powerful" politicians and show them that they are not above the state.
Former BiH diplomat Fuad Đidić spoke about how things could be done 20 years ago compared to today, during his guest appearance on Hayat Television last night.
Đidić says that we live in a different time now compared to when he was active on the public scene.
- We live in a different world than in 2000. I recall a statement by Obama when he said that the diversity of people is the strength of the USA, while Trump says it is their weakness.
Fifteen years is not a long time in history, but it represents a fundamental change in global relations and the paradigms on which Western society is based - Đidić points out.
He believes that it was easier to reach agreements in BiH in the past due to the stronger presence of the international community.
Due to everything that has happened, Đidić says, the agreement of the people has turned against itself and created political elites that do not represent those who elected them.
- It was easier to reach an agreement due to the presence of an external factor. We had stronger High Representatives, and then we have a weakening of the international community's influence. But there is another problem - we live in a political paradox where a part of society has turned against itself.
The agreement of the people has turned against the people because it has created political elites that do not represent those who elected them. Because of this, you don't have cases of communication like the Krnjić case, who entered the system and shook it.
You don't have the entry of experts, citizens, or interest groups. We are witnessing a perversion of the basic model of the Dayton Agreement, that is, the transformation of a blocked, stagnant society - Đidić is of the opinion.
In such a system, he adds, people emerge who demonstrate the flaws of a system that functions on the principle of trade. He also believes that diplomacy of apology, i.e., blind obedience and belief in the interests of foreign powers, is currently present.
- Such people always emerge in the system, demonstrating the flaws of a system that functions on the principle of trade. This blockade system exists due to money, profit, certain investments, among other things. So, it's about trade.
This blockade is the key issue for the country. The country was blocked almost from top to bottom last year, including its diplomacy.
This diplomacy we have now is a diplomacy of apology, blind obedience to the interests of foreign powers on one hand, but also a blind belief in those foreign powers - Đidić added.
