EU Delegation to RS Authorities: Prevent Crimes Against Bosniak Returnees, Investigate and Prosecute Those Responsible

(Patria) - The European Union Delegation in BiH condemned the attack on returnee Bahrudin Gušo, which occurred in Višegrad on January 30.

According to the entity MUP, the attack happened about 15 minutes before midnight in front of a salon in the Bikavac settlement.

The duty prosecutor of the East Sarajevo District Public Prosecutor's Office classified Bahrudin's injuries as severe and authorized police officers to take all measures and actions to document and prove the criminal offense.

Returnee Bahrudin Gušo Beaten in Višegrad, Injuries Inflicted by Mayor Đurević's Driver Were Severe

(Patria) - Police officers of the Višegrad Police Station identified a person from Višegrad suspected of inflicting severe bodily injuries on person G.B. from Višegrad around 11:45 PM on January 30, 2024.

"On January 31, police officers identified and found a person with initials M.S. from Višegrad, who underwent criminal processing in the official premises of the Višegrad Police Station. Further work is ongoing," the RS MUP announced.

The EU Delegation in BiH stated that the police's swift reaction in apprehending the alleged perpetrator is commendable, but that the frequency of attacks on Bosniak returnees in eastern Bosnia is a serious concern.

"We call on the competent authorities in the RS to do more to prevent crimes against Bosniak returnees and to fully investigate, prosecute, and secure convictions for the perpetrators of the attacks," the EU Delegation's reaction, published on platform X, stated.

RSE reminds that at the end of March 2023, Fadil and Ajša Memišević were attacked in the village of Omeragići in the Višegrad area. They were beaten, and seven thousand marks were stolen from them. The perpetrator or perpetrators have not been found.
