Anniversary of the Old Bridge's Destruction Marked with Siren Sounds, a Jump Without Applause, and Lilies in the Neretva

(Patria) - The 32nd anniversary of the destruction of the Old Bridge in Mostar was marked with siren sounds, the throwing of lilies into the Neretva, and a jump without applause.

On this occasion, a large number of Mostar citizens gathered in the Old Town to mark this historical anti-civilizational event.

“The Old Bridge is a world symbol on the UNESCO list. All those who destroyed it with the intention of it disappearing forever ended up with sentences from The Hague, and some by suicide. The Old Bridge is there, it connects people, it connects shores, it is again everything it should be. It continues its centuries-long existence, and that is what the world needs. We are proud of the Old Bridge and we should cherish and protect it,” stated Adil Šuta, a minister in the HNK Government, for the portal Mostarski.ba.

A large number of young people, namely students from Mostar schools, attended today's commemoration.

The city authorities of Mostar have not officially marked the anniversary of the Old Bridge's destruction in all these past years. The city administration's stance is that only its reconstruction is officially commemorated. Let us recall that the Old Bridge was reconstructed and restored in 2004, and a year later it was included in the UNESCO list of protected cultural heritage.
