Zvizdić concerned about RS referendum

Regarding yesterday's adoption of the proposal to organize a referendum on judiciary at the state level and the powers of the High Representative in the National Assembly of RS, I express concern due to the blatant violation and endangerment of the Dayton Peace Agreement, said the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić, reports the Patria News Agency.

- I believe that the decision of the authorities in RS is irresponsible and directly endangers the stability of the country and the achieved European path that BiH has embarked on. Such a decision is not and cannot be within the jurisdiction of the NSRS and shows the readiness of the authorities to, for their own interests and to gain political points, in the most irresponsible way contrary to democratic standards, undermine the constitutional order of BiH and endanger general stability, and lead the citizens of RS into an even deeper crisis and insecurity.

The same authorities that are at the head of Republika Srpska actively and equally participated in the structural dialogue initiated in 2011, as well as in other reform processes, thereby creating all the necessary prerequisites and obligations to directly present their competent suggestions in the reform processes.

I want to remind that the Law on the Court of BiH and the Law on the Prosecutor's Office in BiH were passed by the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH with the votes of SNSD representatives, and therefore it is necessary for domestic and international institutions to be maximally involved in stopping this negative and harmful process which directly violates the General Peace Agreement.

I call on the authorities of Republika Srpska to proactively participate in the continuation of the Structural Dialogue on Judiciary and all other reform processes initiated on the path to the EU, to institutionally adopt the reform agenda to which they have given political consent, because that is the only legitimate and democratic path for the betterment of the citizens of BiH and RS, Zvizdić states.
