Zvizdić meets with McDonald: UK supports reform processes in BiH

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić received today in Sarajevo the Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Simon McDonald, and thanked him for the significant friendly support of the United Kingdom in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They agreed that the bilateral relations between the two countries are of high quality and without open issues. Under-Secretary McDonald said that the United Kingdom supports reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He expressed confidence that BiH will soon achieve candidate status for membership in the European Union.

Chairman Zvizdić and Under-Secretary McDonald also discussed the Western Balkans Summit, which will be held in London in 2018, with the main topics being infrastructure and energy connectivity, digital economy, youth cooperation, and security cooperation.

During the meeting, the interlocutors agreed that economic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Kingdom are modest, but that there is significant potential for improvement.

Chairman Zvizdić thanked the Government of the United Kingdom for giving importance to the commemoration of the anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide victims.

During the meeting, Zvizdić expressed confidence that after leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom will continue to support reform processes in BiH on its path to the European Union. They agreed that the integration of the entire Western Balkans is of key importance, both for political and economic stability and for the security of the whole of Europe.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to BiH, Edward Ferguson.
