Official: Controlled Bosnian dairies meet EU standards

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. the Veterinary Office, has received the Report on the results of the audit by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, carried out in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 14 to 25 March 2016, to assess the system of production and control of milk products intended for export to the European Union.

The official report states that generally the milk production facilities meet EU standards. Furthermore, the audit also showed that the official control system is capable of ensuring that EU-approved export facilities meet relevant EU requirements and that the staff responsible for official controls are adequately trained and competent to apply EU standards.

The report also identifies shortcomings in the official control system, particularly the failure to provide timely information to the central competent authority by competent authorities at other levels of the command chain, as well as deficiencies in the animal identification system.

The identified shortcomings are presented in the form of recommendations to the competent authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to be addressed as soon as possible.
