Žuljević: FBiH Government must freeze prices of basic foodstuffs

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Aner Žuljević, delegate of SDP BiH in the Federal House of Peoples, believes that the government is boasting about record growth in budget revenues, which is nothing more than a result of price increases at the expense of impoverished citizens who are left to themselves in the fight against inflation, it was announced from SDP BiH.

“Citizens have paid more money from their pockets for goods and services in the country, on which taxes were calculated. The government must understand that inflation is three times higher for the poor than the official five percent. The reason is the structure of inflation, as well as the structure of household consumption. The acceleration of inflation in FBiH has a very pronounced social dimension, because in the last year, food and energy prices have increased the most, i.e., products on which citizens with low incomes spend the largest part of their income. The second way in which inflation threatens the standard of the poor, more than the rich, is the structure of their income,” said Žuljević.

He adds that the poorer often have fixed incomes, which price increases devalue, while the rich also have income from capital, which is often protected from inflation.

“The situation is too serious, and the FBiH Government must freeze the prices of basic foodstuffs. Prices of fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread, flour, oil, rice are rising... the prices of some items have even increased by 150 percent. A citizen of our country, who on average has the lowest salary, truly needs to be a magician to survive from the first to the first of this price rampage in which a selfish predatory state is inflating its wealth through record budget revenues by robbing its own citizens,” stated Žuljević.
