Zukić: The international community is part of the government and bears part of the blame!

The international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been an integral part of the government since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in BiH, and has contributed to the current situation of the country, stated Amir Zukić, Secretary General of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), for the BH news agency.

Reacting to information that individual representatives of international institutions are regularly attending and supporting the plenums being organized in BiH cities in recent days, Zukić says it would be more appropriate for the international community to do its part and be a mechanism for unblocking.

Zukić: When we wanted to reduce salaries, they told us it was an attack on independence

- It is evident that the unblocking of institutional functioning is not possible without the international community. The reform process in BiH in all segments, which began when Paddy Ashdown was High Representative and later stalled, is also not possible without their engagement and pressure. They are part of the structure in BiH, and without them, we will hardly achieve a functional administration – warns Zukić.

According to him, past experience shows that foreigners attend the work of BiH institutions, or actively get involved, only when their interests are threatened.

- Certainly, just as they attend plenums, they should also attend parliamentary sessions. I will give you an example: when we from the SDA requested the dismissal of the Management Board of the Banking Agency of the Federation of BiH due to their inaction and poor performance, as well as excessively high salaries and benefits, we received a reaction from the international community that it was an attack on the independence of that institution – says Zukić.

He emphasizes that representatives of the international community should contribute, but also be aware that, along with the mistakes of individuals who have held and currently hold power in BiH, they too have contributed to provoking justified public discontent.
